Grace

« Glossary Index

Grace is the free and unmerited favor of God.

One way of understanding grace in our own lives is the presence of divine attributes of peace, calmness, love, bliss, light, energy, and wisdom in “an ever flowing energy that one does not earn but receives as a gift”.

It has been defined as the divine influence which operates in humans to regenerate and sanctify, to inspire virtue, and to impart strength to endure trial and resist temptation; and as an individual virtue or excellence of divine origin.

Grace is understood in the Christian religion as the attribute of love for the salvation of sinners and personal blessings.

In Hinduism the ancient sage Vasistha, in his classical work Yoga Vasistha, considered grace to be the only way to transcend the bondage of lifetimes of karma.

Paradise is something of immense value; a person cannot earn it by virtue of his deeds alone, but by the Grace and Mercy of Allah.” Umar Sulayman al-Ashqar (Islamic prophet Muhammad once said that “None among you can get into Paradise by virtue of his deeds alone … not even I, but that Allah should wrap me in his grace and mercy.”)
